I have two semesters left before I graduate from college. That means I will be finished in May 2010. Afterwards I want to teach English or American history somewhere in Germany, but I don’t know how I can go about getting that kind of position. I want to be in Germany for at least two or three years to solidify my German. It doesn’t matter who I teach. A Gymnasium (German high school equivalent) is good or a university or an institute would work as well.
Does anyone happen to know where I could look online? It’s a bit early for it, but I want to start now so I can start directly after I graduate.
I don’t know how many of the readers of this blog will be able to help with this, but I figured I would give it a shot anyway.
How would you rate this post?
I see that you’d like to teach at a Gymnasium, Uni, or
Volkshochschule, but there is also the possibility of
teaching at a DoDDS on a U.S. military base. Many of
these jobs are hard to get because they are sought after.
But they would get you into Germany and permit you a
place to start searching for jobs “on the economy”. I
might add, that DoDDS schools are good schools and
parents are very involved. You can start your search at
http://www.dodea.edu/offices/hr/employment/default.htm. While the website is somewhat confusing, it’ll get ya there. Good luck. I know I loved Europe the 6 years I was there and my German was fluent enough to pass as a Bavarian!
Thanks for the advice! That’s a very good suggestion!
